Date night

Last night Don and I went to the Seneca Allegany Casino to see Crystal Gayle and Lee Greenwood perform. Crystal was the first one to come on stage with her almost floor length black hair swinging. She looked amazing and sang beautifully backed up by her band. Her sister Peggy was her back up singer. Here's a little biography from Wikkipedia.

Crystal Gayle (born Brenda Gail Webb on January 9, 1951) is an award-winning American country music singer. Best known for her 1977 country-pop crossover hit song, "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue", she accumulated 20 number one country hits during the 1970s and 1980s (18 on Billboard and 2 on Cashbox) with six albums certified Gold by the RIAA. Crystal Gayle became the first female artist in country music history to reach Platinum sales with her 1977 album, "We Must Believe in Magic". Also famous for her nearly floor-length hair, she was voted one of the 50 most beautiful people in the world by People Magazine in 1983. She is the youngest sister (by 19 years) of singer Loretta Lynn and a distant cousin of singer Patty Loveless. Crystal Gayle has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, near Loretta Lynn's star.

After an intermission to change bands Lee Greenwood took the stage.

Melvin Lee Greenwood (born October 27, 1942) is an American country music artist. Active since 1962, he has released more than twenty major-label albums and has charted more than 35 singles on the Billboardcountry music charts.

Greenwood is best known for his single and signature song "God Bless the USA", which was popular when it was originally released in 1984, and became popular again after the September 11, 2001 attacks (becoming his highest charting pop hit, reaching No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100). He also has charted seven No. 1 hits in his career: "Somebody's Gonna Love You", "Going, Going, Gone", "Dixie Road", "I Don't Mind the Thorns (If You're the Rose)", "Don't Underestimate My Love For You", "Hearts Aren't Made to Break (They're Made to Love)", and "Mornin' Ride". His 1983 single "I.O.U." was also a top five hit on the adult contemporary charts, and a No. 53 on the Hot 100

There are only a few songs that make me burst into tears and when he ended with Proud to be an American everyone stood up and I know I wasn't the only one with tears in my eyes.

It was a great night and a lot of fun.

  1. Just had to comment as I loved knowing that you got to see Crystal perform. I've seen her and Peggy perform too and know what a sweet show she puts on. And my daughter-in-law's mother is her and Peggy and Loretta's sister too. she was the baby in the film Coal Miner's Daughter. They are sweet women, each one. My daughter-in-law has 4 younger sisters and I've know them all since they were in school with our kids. They all had good voices and were as cute as could be. I pestered them constantly to get an act together but they were shy.

Ah, if only they had! So glad you saw the show.
