We've created a monster

We've created a monster..a sugar monster that is. We have been feeding the hummingbirds in the summer for eons but this is the first year a Baltimre Oriele has come to the feeder don enlarged the holes to accommodate his larger beak. And the Mrs. Comes too. But today I saw something that had me laughing out loud. Mr. Oriele came to the feeder with a bug in his mouth and dipped it in the sugar water.

But that's not the monster I'm talking about. A woodpecker is also having his daily snack at the feeder. I've never seen that before.

The wildlife certainly entertain us, don't they?

  3. -chuckle- I think the "monster" may be, that we have introduced birds, to ready sweetness, without any work. Usually, if birds want the sweetness of nectar, they have to fly around, find the right flowers, and do what ever they do, to "drink" it.

But feeders have cut out the work part. >,-)

Almost like how humans used to have to dole out a bit of their precious sugar, and make desserts for special days of the year. So that sweet desserts were special treats. To be looked forward to, and to be remembered.

Now, with food companies churning out more "sweet treats" than we could ever eat, in a lifetime... The work and anticipation has been cut out, for humans. And of course, humans in the developed world, are getting fatter and fatter.

    Eeeek!

Are we doing that to birds???????

I know! I know! I know! I have much too much time on my hands, to think much too much! LOL!!!!!! Give me a line, and I can run with it, all the way to..... well, maybe to infinity. LOL.

Enjoy your day of bird watching!!!!
