I know it doesn't look like much now

Usually it hits in January. After the Christmas season and I get all the decorations put away and my house back in order I always get the urge to organize. It may be the cold weather that keeps me inside and the desperation to find something to do that makes me want to get into closets and drawers. There is a sense of satisfaction getting things in order. This year that feeling came early in my art studio/extra bedroom. It's a very small room with a twin bed and trundle bed under that I can pull out when I get company. The only other thing in the room is a bird's eye maple dresser inherited from Don's mother. When I'm not using it for guests...which is ninety nine percent of the time...I put a drafting table in there and use it as my art studio.

But I needed a space for all my art materials there. I have been storing them in the basement which really doesn't work for me. My solution was to think vertically. Yesterday Don put up some deep shelves all along the wall. He also pulled out nails and filled in the holes. Next he will touch up the paint. Now I intend to find fabric storage boxes and organize and label all my supplies to have on hand. If you live in a good shopping area that would be no problem for you. But I don't and the chances of finding ten or more boxes all the same is very slim. I might find two or three but our stores just don't carry that many items all at once. So I will be on the lookout. I look forward to having this space to call my own

  1. Every time I'm home I feel the need to organize, Peggy! I've been on the move so much this year, so motivated or not I have to get cracking as soon as I turn up the water and and the furnace. It will be interesting to see how you feather this nest! Have you thought about looking at what storage boxes are available on Amazon? Probably, but I thought I'd share the suggestion. Take care!

    1. Thanks Louise. I found some boxes and filled them. Remarkably I didn't have as much as I thought I did. I've been weaning out my things over the years. But it's so good to have them all in one place where they will be readily available. My house is very small and not a lot of storage so it's nice to have made an extra space.

  2. Jo Anne Fabric might have 3 or 4 fabric boxes in one pattern in one particular store. Jo Anne on line might be a resource for other sizes and shapes in the same fabric.

We need to think of ourselves as artists, pianists or writers. The world (and sometimes our closest family) is too ready to say, "Who do you think you are?" "Be sensible, be realistic, get your head out of the clouds." Don't listen to them. Move ahead with your dreams, I am moving ahead with mine.

    1. Thanks Becky. I checked out Walmart and found some that I liked. You are right. We need to be proud of our accomplishments. I will claim the title artist. Last summer I went to a yard sale where I bought an artist paint box. When the girl asked me if I was an artist I hesitated. Now I will proudly say yes. Are you writing?
