Photographing Children

My hat is off to all the photographers out there who get such perfect pictures of children. I attempted to take a great picture of my two grandchildren from Tennessee while they were visiting this week. june 2012 ryan's visit 021 Trying to get a good shot was next to impossible with these wiggly worms. june 2012 ryan's visit 024 Can’t you just see the devil in their eyes?

Grandchildren

There is nothing more fun than when the grandchildren all are here. They do the craziest things. Here’s Dan climbing up a telephone pole..just for the heck of it. party 6.12 020

Busy, busy

I’ve been missing in action on my blog for a while now. I’ve been busy with my family. Over the weekend we celebrated Don’s birthday with a large party. party 6.12 024
There was great company, lots of delicious food and a fun time for all.

Landscaping continues

The landscapers were here yesterday and weeded and cleared out under the weeping cheery. Today they are back and hope to get the topsoil in and the beds ready for planting. landscaping 5.31.12 003
It really looks empty now with everything gone. We have been getting ready for Don’s unbirthday party on Saturday. He will be seventy and it’s a good cause to celebrate. The outdoors is looking good.landscaping 5.31.12 004

Landscaping Part three

It’s the start of a holiday weekend so only two kids showed up to weed the back bank yesterday. They took out an overgrown forsythia bush and some tiger lilies that had been there forever. It’s hard to see some things go that I planted, but I hope the end result will be worth it. Right now it looks pretty blank.landscaping pt 3 001

landscaping part two

It’s the end of the day and all the workers have left. There were three younger people weeding the back bank and pulling out all the buttercup roots. They worked hard but still it was a difficult task.

So does the area by the picket fence. landscaping part two 5.12 002
It has really opened things up. landscaping part two 5.12 003

All of the shrubs are gone except for one rhody that was saved. landscaping part two 5.12 005

It’s amazing how you notice the stone. landscaping part two 5.12 006

I can’t wait to see what the landscape architect has planned for me.

Landscaping Part one

Take a deep breath.  That’s what I’m telling myself as we have made a major decision to completely relandscape around our home. We have been here almost 40 years now and have loved the location. It’s a great place to live on a quiet street. Because our house is brick it has been easy to care for. We have changed some things around the house since the addition by adding a courtyard and bank landscaping. We also added a picket fence garden area around the side. But we’ve never done too much to the front over the years.
In the spirit of “one thing leads to another” we thought about having professional landscapers come in and help us with a problem we’ve had out back on our bank. There was water in one spot that we couldn’t deal with. Then we  decided that why not completely redo the front of the house too and bring it up to date with new landscaping. After contacting Tom O’Brien we made a plan and today the landscapers are here.
landscaping part one 5.12 001  Yes, the rhodies are beautiful this time of year, but so overgrown.

landscaping part one 5.12 020 All of a sudden you can see more of the front of the house and the lovely stonework.

The large bushes near the house on the side have been taken out leaving a large space and opening it up. I’m lovin’ it already.
