My Favorite Day

“What day is it?” asked Pooh.  “It’s today,” squeaked Piglet.  “My favorite day, “ said Pooh.

Don’t we appreciate each and every day? Especially these warm sunny days with pops of yellow from the daffodils and forsythia.

I had high hopes that today would be the day that I would get some cleaning done inside the house. But not a chance. I’m going to enjoy this gift of a day and sit out on my swing and read. I’ve started the new Rob Lowe autobiography, Stories I only Tell My Friends.

I’ve always loved Rob Lowe ever since St. Elmo’s Fire




and adored him in The West Wing on tv.
I’ve just started the book but the first chapter tells of his encounters with John F. Kennedy, Jr. I can’t wait to read more.

DAFFODIL DAYS

You know it’s Spring when you see the first daffodils popping up with their bright yellow color. These are in the front of the picket fence where they get the most light. The other Spring flowers will be up soon too. They leaves are pushing their way out of the ground.  

Today was another kind of daffodil day for me too. I volunteered to help sell bouquets of daffodils for the Cancer Society’s annual charity fund raiser. This time I sat in the local drug store for a few hours this afternoon. I’m always glad to help out a good cause.

A meme

Now what is a meme you might ask. The term "Internet meme" refers to a concept that spreads rapidly from person to person via the Internet, largely through Internet-based email, blogs, forums, Imageboards, social networking sites, instant messaging and video streaming sites such as YouTube.
It can be like a party and today Vee of A Haven for Vee asked bloggers to choose four of their photographs which would be great turned into note cards.

What more can I say!!

Sadie’s Walk

Sadie loves her daily walk, especially in this nice weather. Right down the street from where I live is the Willow Dale Cemetery. The paved road that wanders through the cemetery is an excellent place for dog walking. And since the pond has been recently revived it makes an ideal spot to visit. Here are some Photoscaped pictures from our walk this afternoon.

My tree

For Spring I added some apple blossom and pussy willow branches and some eggs to my other branches in the metal bucket. Sorry these pictures are so dark. I’ll try to get better pictures later. (I know, good photographers know you can’t shoot with light coming in the window). I just wanted to show off my eggs from Pottery Barn. They are mercury glass and are pink, blue and silver.
I hung some other eggs on the tree too.






I also hung some from the “candleier” over the table. I added boughs of white lilacs to the top of the candleier.

You may remember the tree. This is how it looked with the words of wisdom on it.  They are still there.

I so enjoy the tree I think it will stay there for quite a while.

BACK IN BLOGGING BUSINESS

Yipee, skippee, I’m back in blogging business again. This is a card reader and now I can put my SD card in the slot and my pictures once again can be uploaded to my computer. I am soooo happy!

Here is the promised picture of the lawn chair and salt box. I’ve got to get that box put away now.

Warm weather continues

Our great weather is continuing today but it has slipped into the fifties. I am off this afternoon on a shopping trip with the ladies to Olean. It’s fun to “get out of Dodge” and I have a a few things to return. I haven’t seen the new Kohl’s store which opened up in the mall.  Maybe I can find a pair of sneakers there. I’m also stopping at Staples to try and find a card reader. I think I can use that to get my pictures onto my computer. I sure miss doing that every day.
   This summer I am making it a goal to try to improve my photography by going out and traveling to find more suitable subjects. Then I will experiment with post processing.

Let the sun shine!

Ok, all you sunworshipers out there, let me here a whoo-whoo! Sunday was another sunny warm day. When I took Sadie for a walk at 6:30 the temperature was 70 degrees. AMAZING!  I hope you enjoyed your day even though we had a few raindrops midafternoon.

I am so lucky to have a beautiful walking trail very close to my house (less than 2 miles) which is used by many people, dogs, bikes, and skateboarders.

Easy access from residential areas and the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford makes The Richard E. McDowell Community Trail the most popular walkway of all the Tuna Valley trails. The 10 ft wide, paved, gentle path along the West Branch of Tunungwat Creek offers perennial plantings, trout fishing, glimpses of the area’s oil heritage, wildlife (including an occasional black bear), and friendly people.

I love computers. I really do.  But my favorite saying is “Computers are wonderful..when they work.” I’ve been having a little trouble with my temperamental HP. Sometimes I can’t get the SD slot to read my pictures and put them in the computer. It doesn’t happen every time, but often enough that it is becoming a problem. I think I’ve worn out the slot.
    So this entry will be pictureless until I can get it working.

   Today was the MOST beautiful of all days. It was almost eighty degrees (just about unheard of here in northwestern Pennsylvania) Don and I spent the day looking for a new van. We’ve been on the “hunt” for about six months but we are particular and can’t find the exact car/deal we want. Ours is only 6 years old so we don’t have to be in a hurry.
  We started out driving to Warren through some amazing fog near the Kinzua Dam. AFter eating at Applebee’s we were off to Jamestown where we discovered that the dealerships were closed Saturday afternoons. (Why is that when most people who work and can afford a car have that day off?)
   Seeing all those brand new cars shamed me into giving my van a deep cleaning when I got home. It looks pretty good now. 
   After taking Sadie for a walk I settled down in a lawn chair to read the new issue of Southern Lady that arrived today in the mail. I have a great picture of the chair and beside it is my magazine and glass of water sitting on*******our salt box. Only in Bradford would you have a summer lawn chair and a winter box of salt for the walkway in use at the same time>>>LOL. Here’s an old picture of the salt box. Use your imagination for the chair.

Literary Club

I belong to a local club in Bradford, The Women’s Literary Club. It was established in 1888. I have been President of the club for two years and today was my last day of being president. I have really enjoyed being a member of the literary club. It’s a wonderful group of women and I always look forward to our meetings which always consist of a great program and a tea. We have four luncheons a year also and today was our Report Day Luncheon where each committee and officer gives a report of their year.
  We also had a fun program where some of us dressed up and pretended to be members of the Red Feather Investment Club. It was delightful.

And this was our dessert. It was sponge jelly roll with raspberry white chocolate mousse inside.

Spring in the South

In the Spring I always remember talking to my mother who lived in Georgia on the phone. She would always say I needed to come down and see the wisteria on Cooter Creek. We mostly went down in the summer when I had vacation from teaching but sometimes we would manage to go over Easter.  We’d take the car ride to Cooter Creek down a small paved road which was lined on each side with boughs of hanging purple flowers. The vine was voracious and would grow up over other trees and fences. It had the most beautiful foliage and delicate drooping flowers.
There is nothing as gorgeous as the South in the Spring. Crepe Myrtle trees abound and their bright red or pink or white flowers told you that the warm weather had arrived.

And at every house their were azaleas lining walkways and driveways.

Of course down South Spring comes much earlier than ours. It’s this time of year when I am envious of my southern sisters. Especially when they call and announce how everything is blooming. (But the envy doesn’t last long when they call in the middle of the summer and complain about the oppressive heat.) If you ever get a chance to visit the South in the Spring, never hesitate. It’s magnificent.

What sunshine does to you

A sunny day.  All day.  What a day!!Woo-woo!
What did you this glorious sunny day?


It’s way too early in Western Pennsylvania to be actually considering this Spring, but today’s sunshine was just part of this particularly mild winter we are having this year. We have been known in the past to have St. Patrick’s Day snowstorms with snow as deep as your waist. (I’m not kidding). So this mild day full of sunbeams made everyone smile.

First, I took a dining room chair out on the courtyard and just SAT! With my face up to the sun! Mmmmmm.... that felt wonderful. For those of you in the South who have access to this feeling all the time don’t feel sorry for me. I know it sounds like I’ve been deprived of an essential part of life..and sometimes it seems so to me too. But I needed a good long dose of Vitamin D today.  Later on I actually brought out two lawn chairs from the basement in anticipation of more great days.


Then the Spring Cleaning flu got hold of me and I retreated to my basement to see if I could find some things to give to my friend whose church is having a rummage sale. Guess what..I couldn’t find very much that was worthy of that, but I did throw out quite a bit. I’m actually getting better at letting go and I love how it feels.


Next I tackled the front hall closet. I would say, “Who in the world needs that many winter jackets?” but remember where I live.  We do. But I did clean out quite a few jackets, old trench coats, hats, scarves and gloves (you can have too many of those).
