UPMC

Today I am spending a little time at the university of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Linda is currently in her appointment which lasts for three hours while they program her Cochler implant. When we got her at eight thirty this andwe found that the there was a miscommunication. Her appointment wasn't until December 9th instead. Her dad who is in his eighties must have heard it wrong. We really didn't want to drive four hours back to Pittsburgh in the winter time. I told her to ask if they could work her in. They finally sAid that they could take her at three thirty. We decided to stick around in the waiting room and it's a good thing we did because they had a cancellation and she got in at twelve thirty. So we won't be headed for home until much later.

This is really when I am grateful for the ipad. I've been able to entertain myself. I will be glad to get home tonight. It's been such a busy few weeks with not a lot of time for rest. And you know that I don't sleep well away from home.

I'm just glad that linda will be able to hear much better after this.

Where's Peggy now?

Another day, another city.

Do you recognize the Cathedral of Learning?

Yes, I'm in Pittsburgh. I know, I know ....my heels are wheels. Today I drove my good friend Linda down to Pittsburgh. Tomorrow morning she has an appointment at UPMC to get a new processer for her Cochlear implant.

We had dinner at this restaurant...The Porch. It had a very different menu. Dan got an egg pizza. Yes. I got to have dinner with Dan two times in three days. Once in Buffalo and now here.

Linda had wings and cornbread.

And I had a delicious prime rib sandwich with a balsamic onion jam,Gorgonzola cheese, arugula, sourdough bread and crispy taters.

Then Linda surprised me with a black cherry cake. I had to ask if there was an alcohol used in the cake. I am really allergic. It's been a long time since I've had a reaction but I always ask. And sure enough on the topping there was rum but it was evaporated. I didn't take a chance although it looked good.

Now we are at the garden Hilton and settled for the night. Good night all.

What a surprise!

I had a fantastic birthday celebration that I had for my seventieth birthday. On Friday night I was shocked when my son Chris, grandson Scott and girlfriend Michelle and her daughter came in the door. He wanted to surprise me for my birthday. I was so thrilled. It was a warm evening and we sat outside talking when someone walked up the driveway. It was my other grandson Dan and his girlfriend Gretchen. What a surprise!

On Saturday morning I made a breakfast casserole and set the table in a French theme. As we ate I played some French accordion music. That along with the candlelight, blueberry bread with honey butter and the good company made a super start to the morning.

Chris had another surprise in store for me. On Saturday we rode to Niagara Falls which is about two hours from home. We walked down to the American falls. We hadn't been there for a while and it was an awesome sight. Then we went to the Galleria mall in Buffalo to eat at the Cheesecake Factory. We all enjoyed our meals. I had my favorite the Thai lettuce wraps. We split two cheesecakes for the table and I enjoyed the white chocolate macadamia nut Carmel one which was delicious. They also brought me a dish of ice cream with sprinkles for my birthday and sang to me.

But that wasn't the end of the surprises! You are not going to believe what I did next! I drove a go cart! There is a raceway on the upper level of the mall.

Here we are getting ready to race.

We had to put on these black hoodies and find a helmet to fit.

Then it was off to the races!

I drove so slowly they lapped me three times but I had a blast!

This Has been the best birthday ever!

Using Photoshop

I haven’t played around with Photoshop in quite a while but it was fun to try it with some of Sara’s photos. I must get these printed out and framed.

Squirrel with a hat

I saw this and laughed. Some people think of squirrels as rats with tails but I think they are adorable.

Home again

My it's good to be home again. We have been gone ove two weeks visiting our family in Virginia and Tennessee. The first week we traveleded to Smith Mointain Lake to spend a week at my sister's lake house. All of her children and their families were there as well as my other sister. And at the end of the week my son, grandson and girlfriend came too. It was a crowd but the house is big and has four bathrooms so everything worked out great. We took turns providing the meals, sat in the hot tub, and played games and laughed and had a wonderful time.

Then we went to Knoxville and stayed with my son and his family. It's always fun to be silly with the little ones and more pictures will follow when I get to the big computer. But first there will be the usual unpacking, laundry, and putting things back in order.

Sadie was really happy to get out of the car after that twelve hour ride! And we were too.

At Home With Nikki

Nikki is my new best friend. I discovered her videos on Youtube and have been addicted to watching all her home organization and decorating tips. This woman is amazing. She should have her own show on HGTV. Her videos are produced so professionally. Her hints are clear, compose, and doable. She has to be the new Martha Stewart. I hope you enjoy this one on pantry organization. I know I can never reach this state of perfection but I sure admire it.

Hello September

Now it is September. It always signals the end of the summer season and start of Autumn. Even though the official start of fall is a ways off where we live fall begins early. The warm days turn into cool nights which are marvelous for sleeping.

September is also a birthday month for my family. All three sisters were born in September. My birthday is on the eighth,...by the way, it's the big 70... my middle sister is the thirtieth, and my youngest sister was born on the fourteenth. In the past we have tried to get together for our birthdays as much as we can.

Once we took a trip to Cape Cod.

And once to Charleston and Savannah. Sometimes we have gotten together for a yard sale. Of course we always like to shop. It doesn't matter what we do a song as we are together. Geographically it isn't easy. I live in northwestern Pennsylvania, linda lives in Fredericksburg, Virginia. And Diane is currently living in Nashville. But we try to see each other as often as is possible.

Since we just spent a week together at the Lake House we probably won't be getting together for our birthdays this year.

Isn't it wonderful having sisters?

“Sister. She is your mirror, shining back at you with a world of possibilities. She is your witness, who sees you at your worst and best, and loves you anyway. She is your partner in crime, your midnight companion, someone who knows when you are smiling, even in the dark. She is your teacher, your defense attorney, your personal press agent, even your shrink. Some days, she's the reason you wish you were an only child.”

Barbara Alpert

“For there is no friend like a sister
In calm or stormy weather;
To cheer one on the tedious way,
To fetch one if one goes astray,
To lift one if one totters down,
To strengthen whilst one stands”
Christina Rossetti, Goblin Market and Other Poems

“Sisters function as safety nets in a chaotic world simply by being there for each other.”

― Carol Saline

“We hug, but there are no tears. For every awful thing that's been said and done, she is my sister. Parents die, daughters grow up and marry out, but sisters are for life. She is the only person left in the world who shares my memories of our childhood, our parents, our Shanghai, our struggles, our sorrows, and, yes, even our moments of happiness and triumph. My sister is the one person who truly knows me, as I know her. The last thing May says to me is 'When our hair is white, we'll still have our sister love.”
