THE KARATE KID

When we were in Tennessee we went with the family to Sean’s karate lesson. His dojo teaches not only karate moves but Christian values as well.  The night we were there it was set up as an obstacle course.tennessee pictures 3.14 063
It was fun watching Sean as he practiced the skills featured that night.  tennessee pictures 3.14 063 - Copy

There were tunnels, ropes to climb on, balancing beams, mats to somersault on, and Sean enjoyed going through the course. tennessee pictures 3.14 069 - Copy (2)
The skill for that night was learning a forward and backward crescent kick. Sean really kicked very high. tennessee pictures 3.14 082

That night Sean was tested for his gold belt. He took that very seriously and did all his kicks and hits and answered questions. He was so proud when the teacher placed that belt around him. tennessee pictures 3.14 104tennessee pictures 3.14 110tennessee pictures 3.14 114tennessee pictures 3.14 118
We also were so proud of him. He is quite the boy!

Supreme!

Last night Don and I had a wonderful date. We sent to the University of Pittsburgh, Bradford campus to see Supreme Reflections, a tribute to the Supremes. We had a fantastic time.
The University was celebrating its 50 years of being in Bradford. I remember in 1963 when the campus opening with just one classroom building. Now it is a complex of dorms, classrooms, a huge theater, a new chapel and large multi purpose building and cafeteria. We are lucky to have this in our community.
To celebrate there was a sixties party in the lobby with a disco ball, hippie guitarists singing sixties songs, food and drink from the sixties such as Tang punch and pineapple upside down cake.
The performance by the Supreme Reflections was amazing. Here are the details from their program.

One of the highlights was the narrator and performer George Solomon. This singer/actor starred with many Motown legends and delighted us with a few Frankie Valley songs and dance moves.
It left us singing those sixties songs.

Ain’t she sweet?

cupcake gif

Girls are so cute! Sara and I had the best time making cupcakes. She is such a girly-girl. It’s all about her dolls, her jewelry, her pink.  Notice the nail polish? WE did her toes too.

Sunrise

Sunrise, sunset,  sunrise, sunset,  Quickly go the days.

Do you remember that song from Fiddler on the Roof?

Sunrise, sunset
Sunrise, sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears

The sunrise this morning was glorious reminding me of the song and how fast the time is passing. We are seeing a changing of seasons. Yesterday it got up to fifty degrees and I found myself walking out to my garden and looking at the dried stalks beaten down by the snow. When will the little sprouts of green begin peeping their tops out?  I had to resist the urge to start to tend the beds. Not time yet.
Time is passing. There are so many things in the day that I want to do and always not enough time. I divide my time between reading, watching episodes of House of Cards on Netflix, learning how to use my camera, enjoying my friends, and household chores.
This morning I am so at peace. I am happiest when I am busy.  This is one of my favorite quotes.

“I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see.”

Bunny love

A little bit of Spring came back with me from down South. I bought a maidenhair fern. This delicate fern just screamed spring and shouted out to me...who was so desperate to see something green and growing. It looks so cheery on the table with a bunny and bird cage full of eggs.

I also got two, lime green chevron pillow covers at Hobby Lobby. And a cute little patterned green pillow.

Happy St. Pat's Day

It is a glorious morning. I'm back home after ten days down south. It may be cold here with patches of snow in the shade but it's warm in my heart. There is nothing like a vacation to lighten your mood. Ten days of visiting family and playing with little ones. It does a heart good.
Now I am officially in the Spring mood.  I'm getting out my Spring decorations this week and moving on into the next season. Lighten up!  That's what I say.

Mysterious pond

LWe were driving at eight this morning when we passed this pond with steam rising off of it. I told Don that it would make a great picture. He turned the car around so I could get a shot with my ipad. Then I used some apps to create even more moodiness.

In bloom

Jenny's Christmas Cactus is starting to bloom. It's nice to see a flower at this time of year.

The daffodils are out too
