When we were in Tennessee we went with the family to Sean’s karate lesson. His dojo teaches not only karate moves but Christian values as well. The night we were there it was set up as an obstacle course.
It was fun watching Sean as he practiced the skills featured that night.
t
There were tunnels, ropes to climb on, balancing beams, mats to somersault on, and Sean enjoyed going through the course.
The skill for that night was learning a forward and backward crescent kick. Sean really kicked very high.
That night Sean was tested for his gold belt. He took that very seriously and did all his kicks and hits and answered questions. He was so proud when the teacher placed that belt around him.
We also were so proud of him. He is quite the boy!
What a special post. I studied karate many years ago. I think it is an awesome discipline for young boys and girls. In a good studio it's never just about the moves, but about values too. I love the joy and pride on Sean's face. Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Sean!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great set of photos you took! Memories...
And just look at the sense of Accomplishment and Pride, on his face. Just look at it. Things like this, are so good, for children. Learning that determination and hard work, bring accomplishment. And self confidence.
Hooray for you Sean!
Tessa~
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteHe does look proud, as he should be. It is great when kids stick to something and work hard to accomplish something. He earned his belt and that has to feel good.
On another note... I have seen some pretty nice self portraits of hands. I can't wait to see yours. :)
this is wonderful. these pictures will mean a lot to him too... when he's all grown up and six feet tall someday!
ReplyDeleteour blake also took karate. it taught him some amazing values. concentration. centering. compassion oddly enough.
and it gave him confidence.
