Lessons to learn

Don't you wish you would have learned some lessons sooner in life? Just think of all the pain you could have avoided. All the sleepless nights. All the guilt and regret that you've carried around. I guess we all have to go through a process of living. Some people however seem to understand these truths at a much earlier age. I wish I had. Here are things that I wish I'd known......

This too shall pass. No matter what time will go on and the way you are feeling at the moment will recede.

Everyone needs to live their own life and it doesn't have to be just like yours. I wish I'd learn to cherish individualism sooner.

Don't give unsolicited advice. Don't be the one who thinks you know better.

And the big one.....you can choose not to react blindly over something. You can choose to feel differently and put the bad feelings behind you.

What lessons do you wish you had learned earlier?

Top Gun

Doesn't Top Gun look relaxed? He looks so much better now. A while ago we discovered that he was diabetic. We had to educate ourselves on the disease and it's been a hard process. We are testing his blood by pricking his ear twice a day and then giving him insulin shots. We can see improvement. Before he was extremely thin and peed gallons a day. He still has an appetite but has gained weight. He has even started hunting again. I'm so happy that he is getting well

Peonies

Who could resist photographing the beautiful peonies with raindrops hanging on the petals?

Something new

While Linda was here she made me a new cover for my porch swing cushion.

The old....

The new..

Now to find a way to keep princess Sadie off of it with her muddy feet.

Are you reading?

“Come with me,' Mom says.

To the library.
Books and summertime
go together.”
― Lisa Schroeder, I Heart You, You Haunt Me

Anytime is for reading but it seems that no season is better than summertime. The warm weather creates an atmosphere of slowing down and along with that comes a good book. Lounging on my porch swing, listening to the waterfall and deep into a book is the best way to spend a summer day. Here is what I'm currently reading.

Chatham lane

Go slowly

‘Smile, breathe and go slowly.’ ~Thich Nhat Hanh

Isn't it pleasant to have a quiet day.

The flowers in the garden are putting forth beautiful blooms. The peonies are starting to open up and the climatis are climbing up the gate.

Happy 90th Birthday

When I was growing up we had a neighbor that I considered my second mom.  Maryne and my mom were best of friends. They shopped together (gathering books of green stamps), sent us off to school and then cleaned their houses and then sat and had coffee every day.  We had an ideal childhood and Maryne was a big part of it.  I remember that she was so positive and always happy and laughing. I never remember her ever being cross.
Today we drove down to Shippenville (about an hour and a half south) to help her celebrate her 90th birthday. maryne's party 6.7 031maryne's party 6.7 030

Her daughter Jill showed us the album that all the neighbors made for Maryne and her husband Ray when they moved away. It was a walk down memory lane for my sister and I.

I actually remember drawing these daisies so my mom could cut out all the neighbor’s pictures and put on the page.  That’s me in the center with the sunglasses. maryne's party 6.7 043

We had a wonderful time. Now Linda is off to visit her California friend who is at her mother’s home in nearby Butler. I had such a fabulous week with her that I hate to see it end. What a fantastic week!

Lunch with the girls

I love entertaining, especially now that the nice weather is here. While my sister Linda was here I wanted to have my friends out in the afternoon. We had planned to be outside and had drinks all ready on the table.

While we were waiting for the girls the sky began to get cloudy. Soon the wind kicked up and we knew that rain would be on the way soon.  So we went with Plan B and planned on being inside.

I love the new water bottle that I found at Walmart.

The lemonade was served in a glass pitcher with a stained glass pattern that was a wedding present.

I used the colorful napkins that I had purchased in Cuba when we went to see the medium on Wednesday.

It was a wonderful time..sitting and chatting. I served raspberry bars with a Waldorf salad. I am blessed to have such great friends.
