New video

I'm four from Peg Karrasch on Vimeo.

Frozen

Frozen was the big movie for children this year. But even adults could appreciate the gorgeous animation involved. So of course Sara wanted a Frozen theme for her party. She will be having her party at the daycare center. Jenny rented a bouncy castle, made cupcakes and blue jello, and is sending pizza for lunch. She also planned a craft that involves painting with Epsom Salts which looks like snow. We made crowns for the girls and antlers for the boys to wear.

Pulled toward a picture

For some reason I am drawn to pictures like this.

All boy

Sean is in first grade this year and is so mature.  As a teacher I am so proud that he is already reading chapter books. He takes his homework very seriously. But the giggles came out tonight when I taught him a dinosaur song.

My little princess

Sara and I are having a ball...playing dolls, hide and seek. Reading, laughing, silliness....what fun!

Mornings

Have a wonderful morning.

I am taking a little break from blogging to have a little fun and enjoy my family. Be back later.

Black-eyed Susans

At the end of the summer just when all those lovely annuals are fading away along come the profusion of Black-eyed Susans. Everywhere you look as you drive by houses these bright yellow flowers are putting on a display. They are hardy and spread easily. Such a happy flower.

A little somethin' new

Look close. It's a new rug. So not me. Is my style evolving? This rug picked up the color of the chocolate drapes and aqua coverlets perfectly so I had to have it. I love it!

Have you found that over the years your style has changed? I'm not one to hop on the bandwagon of styles. But I have gone through phases....who can forget the white ducks in my kitchen during my country years? And my Victorian period with the pink living room rug...what was I thinking?

But now I've settled into a gardeny sort of style, traditional with little touches of French. It makes me happy.

In the morn

Glen Cook
"Morning is wonderful. Its only drawback is that it comes at such an inconvenient time of day."
Glen Cook, Sweet Silver Blues
My view out the door this morning.

Are you a morning person?

You know the one. She's the one who pops out of bed smiling and whistling and has blueberry cobbler made before seven. That would be my sister.

I'm the one who goes quietly into the day. It takes a while to get the gears rolling but I'm in full swing by ten o'clock.

We all run by our specific body times.

Coco J. Ginger
"It's a finger snapping kind of day."

Lemony Snicket

"Morning is an important time of day, because how you spend your morning can often tell you what kind of day you are going to have."
Lemony Snicket, The Blank Book

"I will never be a morning person, for the moon and I, are too much in love."

Oh Captain, my Captain

All the world is grieving today for the loss of one of the greats.

There cannot be one person who hasn't been touched in one way or the other by a Robin Williams film. It's hard to name a favorite from among his large body of work but the dead Poet's Socoety ranks as number one for me since I am an educator.

There are so many greay quotes from the film and many moving scenes but when the students climbed up on their desks to honor their respected leader there were always chill bumps on my arm. And now tears to my eyes.

Weeds

Yes, it's just a weed. It grows in vacant lots and on the side of the highway. It comes up voluntarily in the fields and at the edge of paths. It requires no care at all as it thrives in all summer weather.

The lacy flowers it produces in profusion resemble baby's breath and look so beautiful among the more pedigreed blooms from the garden.

So what defines a weed? What makes it a flower? Doesn't it depend on your point of view?

A weed is but an unloved flower.

Ella Wheeler Wilco

"When life is not coming up roses

Look to the weeds

and find the beauty hidden within them."

Update

For those who care just a little update. My throat has been unusually sore for the past few days after an endoscopy to stretch my esophagus. It's a long story..choking six times, seven endoscopes, ulcers in stomach and esophagus and now stretching. I'm taking meds for the ulcers so those are all gone. It is the scar tissue in the esophagus which narrowed it and caused the choking. It is a very scary thing and several times I thought that I would not survive. The last three procedures stretched the esophagus with a balloon but they can only do a small bit at a time so they don't tear the esophagus. I talked to the dr today and asked why time I was having so much pain. He explained that he stretched it more than he had ever done. It was only fifty percent when he started this time and he stretched it to eighty. That is a s far as he will go for fear of rupturing it. So no more procedures for me. There is a surgery that could be done in extreme cases but not recommended. I hope that it has taken care of the problem. It's been a journey. I am so lucky to have such a supportive husband to help me through this.

Also it was a very sad day yesterday as we finally had to put our diabetic cat down. He wasn't improving as he should and we thought it the best decision. He was the most wonderful cat on the planet and I miss him so.

Sorry for all the sad news. But I know you all understand and have been through things yourselves.

The Andrew Brothers

Yesterday our Circle of Friends group traveled to the Riverside dinner theater south of Erie. It was a two hour trip made even longer with a construction delay of a half hour. It's always fun to go there. The grounds are beautiful and the entertainment is great.

After a tasty lunch we saw the musical The Andrew Brothers. It was a comedy and the actors were hilarious.

"The Good War had a great score, and some of the best WWII jukebox tunes are drafted for Roger Bean's The Andrews Brothers, a splashy sendup of a South Pacific USO tour. Hihspirits combined withe an essential respect for America's warttime experience, prompted smiles galore." -Variety

When a USO show is about be cancelled because a certain famous singing trio of sisters fails to show up, three male stage hands decided to fill their (sensible) shoes and prove that the show must go on! A hilarious musical filled with lots of laughs and some fantastic jukebox tunes of the Great War!

It's raining, it's ok

We've had a great amount of rain this summer. It's been great for the flower garden but not so great for sitting outside. That is why when we get some sunshine we are so happy for it. So for today...some rainy quotes.
