It was such a big day when I was a child. The first of May was May Day. In school we made paper cones and decorated them. I don't remember where we got the flowers. I think I went into the woods and picked wild flowers to put in the cones. Do children pick wild flowers now? Then we were told to quietly go to a house and hang the bouquet on the doorknob. After ringing the doorbell we ran away. The idea was to surprise someone with a lovely token out of the goodness of your heart. It was the way we were taught to be generous and caring of others. When I think of how children these days can be so self centered I wish this custom would return.
Hanging picked flowers on the door and ringing the bell, never heard of that but I love it.
ReplyDeleteI saw on facebook a picture of a small flowered wreath on the front door's knob. I am liking that idea :)
The pillow you got is really nice!!
