update on Sadie

Thank you all for your kind words and concern about our little Sadie. As you know she hasn’t been herself for quite a while now. At first we thought it was her back (slipped disk) and then found out it was an ACL tear in her leg. But when she kept getting worse blood tests revealed that she her liver function was bad. More meds followed. Still not returning to normal we did a urinalysis to reveal a bladder infection. More meds. Luckily we were giving her the pills concealed in her favorite…peanut butter. Even though she was taking 5 pills in the morning and four at night she took them so well.  That is until we added Cipro. It must have upset her stomach because she absolutely refused to be coaxed to take them. We even bought special treats that hide pills. But after a few times she got wise to those too. I did get her to take them this morning by hiding them in ham salad. Tomorrow we are going to do more blood work to see how the liver is doing now. She isn’t acting as bad as she once was but her back legs are weak and she doesn’t have the spunk she is known for. She still loves to go for walks, is eating well, and seems better than before. Maybe these new tests will let us know where we are.

  1. So sorry about your Dear pet...

It is sadness... And I think most people have been through this, at one time or other. With one pet or the other...

    Hugs,

  2. I hope dear Sadie gets much better very soon. We tried every way of getting pills down Milo not long ago and finally were able to get him to take them in slices of baby food meat sticks. I keep a jar on hand now for emergencies.

Katie Belle, our Jack Russell, keeps having bladder stones so we have her on a special dry food from vet office. Best wishes to Sadie!

  4. oh peggy...
i'm playing catch up on a few posts i've missed... and SO GLAD i read your latest one on sadie first... where her tests were good.
you might try giving her the pills in pumpkin! (right out of the can) ... it was recommended by a vet here to my friend who has papito... the little dachshund. he has a very sensitive stomach. and he loves both pumpkin and green beans. he's on a diet.
so she puts one or the other on his diet dry food and he eats it all!
I LOVE these beautiful pictures of adorable sadie. just look at that little beloved face! XOXOXO♥
