Vet report

After the vet checkup we knew that he would say that Sadie needs to lose weight. The prednisone makes her very hungry and we give in to her begging for food. We fed her too much and she put on some pounds. So he encouraged us to try to get off five pounds and that would help her joints. We will continue the Meds and see if the lose of weight helps her feel better. She will miss all her treats and people food but we have to do what is best for our baby.

Poor baby!!! Her little face says it all! We know what a struggle it will be just as it is for us!! She already looks sad about her new program ( remember: it's not a diet, it's a lifestyle.) How many times have we heard that?? Sadie, it's a diet!!!

  2. oh that little face.
    anonymous said it all!
can she have cooked green beans? or a little canned pumpkin?
my friend's little dachshund pepito is on a constant diet too.
and the vet said instead of treats give him a few green beans or a little pumpkin on his food.
he LOVES them both! and he's losing weight! and you might try it! :)
i always love pictures of beloved wee sadie. XO♥

    1. Thanks, we will try pumpkin out and see if she likes that. I am guilty of giving too many pepperoni snacks.

  3. Perhaps have her stay in her crate, while you two eat meals? That would take that temptation, of watching you eat, away from her.

I say this, because that's what my family next door does, with their dog.

If you two tend to snack between meals, not doing that, would also take a temptation away from Sadie. :-)))) And it would probably be good for you too. (No one snacks on healthy food!!!!! -giggles-)

Best of luck. You certainly want to do what is necessary, to ease her discomfort. Anyone who has joint aches, know they are no fun.

    Gentle Spring hugs,

  4. And my daughter-in-law, with the lab and the Swiss Mountain dog, gives them a piece of carrot, for their treat!!!!

To me, a carrot is not a treat! -grin- But she has brought them up this way, and to them, it is super! And if Sadie only gets a carrot, at a certain time, she will learn that, this is super treat to her, tooooo! :-) Or you could at least try.

    1. Thank you for the advice. We will try some of those things out. We know that the people are the source of the problem.
