Spring is always welcomed here in Western Pennsylvania but this year it has come even earlier than usual. The grape hyacinths, daffodils, and tulips are making a spectacular appearance. As the month lights up with color my spirit does also welcome the warmth of the days and transformation of the bland landscape into green. Today was seventy five degrees with a quick blowing wind which made my wind chimes sing a melodious tune. I long to get out in the flower beds to chase away the dried oak leaves and debris and make way for the new summer flowers. Because of our latitude we can’t really trust planting any annuals until after frost which is usually after Memorial Day around here. Our short growing season makes the summer all the more special because we know it will only last a few short months. But those glorious months. Our weather makes our summers delightful. Unlike down south we can sit outside in the evenings and not have to fight off bugs and mosquitoes. We also can be outside during the day because we usually don’t have sweltering temperatures. Our Bradford summers are times of eating outdoors and s’more fires. It won’t be long now.
