Hello September

Now it is September. It always signals the end of the summer season and start of Autumn. Even though the official start of fall is a ways off where we live fall begins early. The warm days turn into cool nights which are marvelous for sleeping.

September is also a birthday month for my family. All three sisters were born in September. My birthday is on the eighth,...by the way, it's the big 70... my middle sister is the thirtieth, and my youngest sister was born on the fourteenth. In the past we have tried to get together for our birthdays as much as we can.

Once we took a trip to Cape Cod.

And once to Charleston and Savannah. Sometimes we have gotten together for a yard sale. Of course we always like to shop. It doesn't matter what we do a song as we are together. Geographically it isn't easy. I live in northwestern Pennsylvania, linda lives in Fredericksburg, Virginia. And Diane is currently living in Nashville. But we try to see each other as often as is possible.

Since we just spent a week together at the Lake House we probably won't be getting together for our birthdays this year.

Isn't it wonderful having sisters?

“Sister. She is your mirror, shining back at you with a world of possibilities. She is your witness, who sees you at your worst and best, and loves you anyway. She is your partner in crime, your midnight companion, someone who knows when you are smiling, even in the dark. She is your teacher, your defense attorney, your personal press agent, even your shrink. Some days, she's the reason you wish you were an only child.”

Barbara Alpert

“For there is no friend like a sister
In calm or stormy weather;
To cheer one on the tedious way,
To fetch one if one goes astray,
To lift one if one totters down,
To strengthen whilst one stands”
Christina Rossetti, Goblin Market and Other Poems

“Sisters function as safety nets in a chaotic world simply by being there for each other.”

― Carol Saline

“We hug, but there are no tears. For every awful thing that's been said and done, she is my sister. Parents die, daughters grow up and marry out, but sisters are for life. She is the only person left in the world who shares my memories of our childhood, our parents, our Shanghai, our struggles, our sorrows, and, yes, even our moments of happiness and triumph. My sister is the one person who truly knows me, as I know her. The last thing May says to me is 'When our hair is white, we'll still have our sister love.”

  1. Don't have siblings, so I'd not know.

But I do know, that you are lucky to be so compatible with your sisters! This is not always the case, sadly.

  2. Happy Birthday to all of you!!!!

Especially Happy Birthday to you, on the 8th... 70??? I'd not think that, of you. Really. Your appearance is much younger than that.

So glad you look so great, to enter your 70th year. You are thus, "ahead of the game," as they say. Keep smiling and taking care of your health.... On into your 70's.

  3. Happy Birthday!! I agree, a sister is one of the best blessings a person can have. I have one sister and wouldn't trade her for the world :)
