We are getting there

We are still working outside trying to get everything ready for summer. Today we will bring out our table with the umbrella and chairs. All set for summer dining.

Yesterday Don was hungry for seafood so we made a trip to Jamestown, NY abou an hour away to go to the Red Lobster. Jamestown is a pretty town on the shores of Chautauqua Lake. When we were younger Don's parents had a cottage there and we spent a lot of weekends enjoying boating and swimming. Along the lake there is also the Chautauqua Institute, a community of learners. In this little gated place there are opportunities all summer long to take classes, hear lectures, or attend concerts. Once my sister Linda and I stayed for three days and took a tole painting class and attended a lecture on antiques. It is a lovely place to visit in the summertime.

Jamestown is also famous for being the birthplae of Lucille Ball. There is even a museum there with memoribilia. Recently Lucy was in the news because the residents of Celeron, a small suburb where she was born, protested the statue of her that is in the park. It really wasn't flattering and didn't resemble her at all.

So Don and I went to the park to see this controversial statue. It was much smaller than I imagined and really didn't look like her at all.

On the way up to Jamestown we went through Allegany State Park which is only a few miles from our house. What a beautiful area with two large lakes and camping facilities. I took my camera and we were hoping to see wildlife. When I was young we would go there and feed deer right out of our car window. But there was not a deer or beaver or even ducks in sight.

On the way home from Jamestown we stopped at Home Depot and I got some stone to make some planting areas around the pond.
